Dublin AM Rotary Newsletter from Ingrid Fields -
March/April 2024

Ingrid's Corner:

Service to each other is Rotary Service too

My last newsletter “Rotary Happy” was a current theme with all the great service projects, the successful fundraisers, our new members and great social events.

Unfortunately, we also share difficult times personally, professionally, perhaps financially or socially during our years together.  In losing Pete, Daryl and Laurie, we lost special friends and members.

With great sadness, we now share in the grief of Gene Oliver losing his brother and Dave Williamson losing his dear accomplished son, Mark.  Our hearts ache at these trying times for our members.  It is bittersweet to share our best thoughts and prayers knowing we can do so little to comfort them.   Yet there is a comfort in service, and this service is strong in our club. Evidence abounds that we understand, we care deeply, and we honor our friends.

Let us cherish the work we accomplish and the journeys and joys we share. And the support during difficult times too.

We have so many impactful activities coming up, please take your calendars in hand and note all the dates that Claudia, Roberta and Erin have shared often and again below.

Committee Updates:

Community Service Committee

Our club is participating in a Wins for Women district-wide service project where we collect toiletries for battered, trafficked and homeless women in Central Ohio.  We're partnering with the Salvation Army who will distribute whatever we collect on Friday 4/12/24.  A sample list of products they requested is as follows, although any toiletry item will be accepted:
  • Bag with handles for packaging if possible.
  • Travel size
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Body wash
  • Toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Lotion
  • Toothbrush
  • Pre-moistened body and face wipes
  • Feminine Hygiene products
  • Razors
  • Shave gel
To amplify your donations, larger cases of individual personal items can be purchased fairly inexpensively on Amazon or at your local retailer and will have a much bigger impact than a random collection of individual items, but literally everything helps!  To make it easy for club members, women’s personal hygiene items can be purchased on Amazon in just a few clicks, or you can collect them on your own. Click here to see the Amazon Wish List link.

We'll collect donated items this Friday and deliver them to the Salvation Army drop off location in Worthington.

Literacy ~ Scholarships

Steve Burigana kicked off the 2024 scholarship project - Dublin AM Rotary will be making awards to Dublin Schools Seniors totaling $9000. Contact Steve if you would like to help with this effort.

A knock at the door might not seem like a big deal to many of us. But, to a home-bound senior, it could signal the arrival of the only person they might see all day or all week long. It brings hope. It brings health. It brings the nutrition and care that will completely make their day. A knock from Meals on Wheels can even save lives.

We are asking for your help in delivering Meals on Wheels to seniors in the Dublin community. It only takes an hour once a week but it makes a huge difference to the senior that you are delivering much-needed food to.  Please click on the attached SignUp Genius link to see how you can help.  We need help for April.

Thank you!!

New Member Feature

Welcome Ed (Utku) Edin, Greg Topps & Sean Becker !

Ed Edin:  - I'm originally from Turkey but I consider myself a global citizen now. I lived in Istanbul-Turkey, London-UK, Dubai-UAE and for the past 10 years in the US, 6 years in Wisconsin and the last 4 years here in Dublin, Ohio. I'm a seasoned finance professional with extensive experience in forecasting and planning. My lifelong desire to research and financial analysis, led me to pursue my interest in stock markets, and am actively involved in day time trading. I became a United States citizen recently, marking a significant milestone in my life journey. I believe deeply in making a positive impact locally and globally with community services. In my spare time, I love spending time with my wife and 2 kids, 6 year old daughter and a 8 year old son. I love outdoor activities such as hiking, scuba diving, photography, sailing and snowboarding.

Greg Topps: -  I am a native of New Jersey, making my way to Columbus to attend The Ohio State University, where I graduated in 2002, earning a BA in English, with a focus on 21st Century Literature…if you ever want a dissertation on Ernest Hemingway, I’m your guy! I am currently a resident of Upper Arlington, I co-manage a semi-professional baseball team, The Arlington Tigers of the Central Ohio Men’s Adult Baseball League (COMABL). I have a 3-year-old daughter who is the absolute light of my life! I also have a German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix named Buckley, who makes sure to wake me up at 5:30am every day (including Sundays). In my VERY spare time, I enjoy doing anything outdoors, rehabbing homes, and exploring bourbon distilleries in Kentucky.

Sean Becker: - I am presently serving as Interim Executive Director of the Dublin Food Pantry. I have over 10 years of experience in nonprofit leadership roles. I am also owner of Becker Content Solutions, a publishing and consulting service. My publishing industry experience now spans 4 decades, and I currently count a textbook publishing company and Dublin's Stroll Muirfield magazine among my clients. I hold a Master's in Public Policy and Management from the John Glenn College of Public Affairs and a bachelor's degree in English Education. I live in Worthington with my beautiful wife and high school "non-sweetheart," Elizabeth Jewell Becker, and my 2 busy middle school kids.
