Michael began working for the City of Dublin in 2018 as the Operation Administrator of the Solid Waste Department in Public Works. Michael oversees several key city contracts that affect the health and safety of community residents including the Rumpke Solid Waste Collection Agreement, the Rumpke Recycling Processing Agreement, the Franklin County Mosquito Control Agreement and the Contract Sweeper Street Sweeping Agreement. Michael’s other responsibilities include serving as the city liaison to the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio, grant writing for the city’s Green Initiatives, oversight of the Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event and Document Shredding Events, as well as the Food Waste Drop Off, Styrofoam Drop Off, and the popular Pumpkin Composting Drop Off. Michael also serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Association of Ohio Recyclers and as Solid Waste Chair for EcoDublin.
Michael has recently been nominated for the American Public Works Association Solid Waste Manager of the Year Award, and has also recently received his Envision ENV-Sustainability Professional Certification from the Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure.
Prior to his employment at Dublin, Michael worked for Rumpke Waste and Recycling serving as the Central Ohio Municipal Representative where he was responsible for the administration of all Rumpke Residential Collection and Recycling Processing Agreements in Franklin County as well as each of the surrounding Central Ohio Counties. Michael’s responsibilities also included the oversight of waste management practices of events including the Columbus Jazz and Rib Fest, Dublin Irish Festival and Red, White and Boom.
Previous to Rumpke, Michael was the owner of Great Lakes Paper Reclamation which specialized in mobile document shredding services for northern Ohio including the greater Cleveland, Toledo and Columbus areas. Great Lakes Paper Reclamation is recognized as an early innovator for the brokerage of paper, cardboard and other fiber materials allowing smaller companies to create revenue by combining and collectively marketing recyclable material that would have otherwise been landfilled.
Michael is a graduate of The Ohio State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Horticulture and was a member of the Ohio State University Marching Band. His future plans include working towards a Master of Public Administration Degree and pilot’s license. Michael has a son named Logan, and enjoys operating a sustainable hobby farm in Delaware County with his wife Laura.
